As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) latest forecast, cyclonic storm, 'Jawad' is likely to re-curve (while at sea) and, as per the path, may brush Odisha’s coast near Puri.
Cyclone Jawad Live Updates: Landfall At South of Puri On Sunday
Considering the input given by the weather office, the Krushnaprasad block administration in the district is preparing itself for the possible eventualities arising out of the cyclone.
The block officials have upped their vigil and directed to close all ghats of Chilika lake from 12 pm today. Also all the fishing boats and vessels have been directed not to venture into the sea till December 6.
The block officials are also making announcements over public address system to alert farmers to harvest and store their crops in safe places.
Meanwhile, two teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been rushed to Khordha district to assist the district administration in the cyclone preparedness. Tangi, Chilika and Banpur blocks are likely to be the worst affected in the district.
According to reports, one of the teams has been sent to Tangi block while another has been sent to Chilika block which are likely to be affected by the cyclone.
Reportedly, each team consists of 20 to 22 Jawans of NDRF who are well-equipped and trained to tackle any kind of situation during and after the cyclone.
"We belong to the 3rd Battalion from Mundali. Our two teams have come to Khordha district to help the district administration. We are confident and well equipped to take care of the situation during the cyclone," said SK Prasad, who is heading the NDRF team.
Meanwhile, according to the latest reports, cyclone Jawad will make landfall in an area south of Puri in about 36 hours from now.
The consensus data of all the lead Met models - INCOIS, IMD, NCEP-GFS, ECMWF, ACCESS-G3 and JTWC - is Cyclone Jawad will make landfall to the south of Puri at around 11:30 hours on Sunday.
Post the landfall, the system will pass over Jagatsinghpur and adjoining Kendrapada districts, only to emerge into the northwest Bay of Bengal. The weakened system will then head for West Bengal.
