Even as a clear picture is yet to emerge on the exact path of Cyclone Jawad, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Jena on Friday said that the severe cyclonic storm may brush Odisha’s coast, somewhere near Puri district.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, the cyclonic storm is likely to re-curve (while in sea) and, as per the path, may brush Odisha’s coast near Puri.
“As per IMD, there is every possibility that after brushing past Odisha coast, it may again re-enter the sea. During landfall, the wind speed along Odisha coast will be around 90 kmph, gusting to 100 kmph,” said Jena.
Jena further said the intensity of the wind will decrease after landfall which is likely to be between December 4 evening and December 5 morning.
“If the cyclonic storm takes a re-curve, there is every possibility it may cross parallel to Odisha coast. Under its influence, the impact will be felt more in Puri, Khordha, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam and Kendrapara districts. The wind speed in these districts is expected at 60 to 80 during landfall process. Puri and Jagatsinghpur districts may experience gusting winds upto 100 kmph,” Jena added.
The Special Relief Commissioner said that several parts of Odisha will experience rainfall activities from December 3. The intensity of rainfall will increase from December 4.
The IMD has also issued Red warning for heavy rainfall in the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri and Jagatsinghpur. Other parts of the State, including Koraput, Rayagada, Kendrapra, Khordha districts will also experience moderate to heavy rainfall.
