The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar on Saturday said that people in the areas, which are likely to get affected by the cyclonic storm 'Jawad', should move to safer places before it comes closer to the Puri Coast on Sunday.

In a press conference, senior weather expert Umashankar Dash said, “The wind speed near the landfall area is likely to be around 75 km to 85 km per hour and the gusting wind speed will reach 95 km per hour. Such a speed may damage kutcha houses and kutcha roads.”
“Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri and Jagatsinghpur will witness the highest rainfall. Paradip has already received 62mm of rain, Gopalpur 43 mm and Puri 40mm,” said Dash.
As far as the landfall is concerned, Dash said, “It will come closer to Puri and its coast but, its exact path will be briefed in the next bulletin.”
He further advised people of the area most likely to get affected by Jawad to move to safer places, especially to cyclone shelters before it comes nearer.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Odisha government on Friday announced the closing down of schools in as many as 19 districts in view of the cyclonic storm Jawad.
The districts where schools will remain shut today (December 4) are Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Koraput, Rayagada, Cuttack, Khordha, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Malkangiri and Mayurbhanj.
