Incessant rainfall triggered by Cyclonic storm 'Jawad' has massively disrupted normal lives across several parts of Odisha. Though the Cyclone's remnants weakened into a Depression, clouds seemed to fall down on the port town of Paradip today afternoon wreaking havoc with intense rainfall.
As per the available data, Paradip recorded 201mm rainfall between 8.30 and 5.30pm today, the highest in the State, informed the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar. The port town recorded a whopping 103 mm of rain in just an hour between 2.30 pm and 3.30 pm.
Generally, IMD declares rainfall activities as cloudbursts in case of short-duration, intense rainfall events over a small area exceeding 100 millimetres per hour.
Not only Paradip, but several other areas of Jagatsinghpur district also experienced heavy downpours since yesterday midnight.
Ersama recorded 188mm rainfall while Kujang and Jagatsinghpur experienced 114 and 66 mm downpours respectively.
Similarly, Puri, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, Ganjam, Balasore and Bhadrak districts have witnessed heavy rainfall as cyclone Jawad brushed the coastline of Odisha.
On the other hand, Baripada recorded 39mm while Chandbali experienced 35mm and Angul recorded 29mm downpour.
Similarly, Kendrapada recorded 35mm, Khordha experienced 33mm rainfall followed by Puri with 25mm, Bhadrak with 21mm, Cuttack with 20mm and Balasore with 19mm. The State's capital city recorded 14mm rainfall.
According to the IMD, the Cyclonic storm Jawad has weakened into a Depression and will further reduce to a well-marked lower pressure area tonight.
