The Regional Meteorological Centre of the IMD has issued a special advisory for people of the Twin Cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar in the wake of the development of cyclonic storm Gulab over the Bay of Bengal.
The advisory issued for the period from 8.30 am September 26 to 8.30 am September 27 has highlighted warnings, possible impacts apart from suggesting actions in view of the storm.
The Met department has warned that few spells of moderate rain/thundershower with one or two spells of intense (2 to 3 cm per hour) very likely to lash Bhubaneswar. Similarly, squally surface wind reaching 35 to 45 kmph gusting up to 55 kmph has also been sounded for the Smart City.

The weather bureau has also warned the possible incidents of temporary traffic congestion, poor visibility during intense spells, damage to vulnerable structures during the cyclone.
Several activities have also been suggested as mitigation measures. Public have been discouraged from venturing outside during the cyclone to avoid falling in manholes or drains during waterlogging. The administration has also been asked to make proper relief operations to drain out water from low-lying areas.
Cyclone Gulab which lay centered at 5.30 pm of 25th September 2021, over northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal, about 370 km east-southeast of Gopalpur (Odisha) & 440 km east of Kalingapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) is predicted to make landfall around evening of 26th September.
