The depression, the remnant of cyclonic storm Fengal over north coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry moved nearly westwards and weakened into a well marked low pressure area on Monday. It is currently over North Interior Tamil Nadu, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
As per IMD, The remnant low pressure area is likely to emerge over southeast and adjoining east-central Arabian Sea off north Kerala-Karnataka coasts around December 3, 2024.
Earlier, the Cyclone Fengal, which passed over the Puducherry coast on Saturday, moved west-southwest of Tamil Nadu and weaken into a deep depression. Heavy rainfall was recorded at six locations, while three places reported extremely heavy rainfall. Puducherry received 469.5 mm of rainfall during the same period.
The continuous downpour caused flooding in low-lying areas of Chennai, disrupting flights and affecting EMU train services.
Rainfall Warning:
North Interior Tamil Nadu, South Interior Karnataka and Rayalaseema: Light to moderate rainfall at many places with isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over North interior Tamil Nadu, South Interior Karnataka and adjoining Rayalaseema on December 2.
Coastal Karnataka: Light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely on December 2 and December 3.
Kerala: Light to moderate Rainfall activity at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places on 2nd and heavy rainfall at isolated places on December 3.
