Cyclone Alert: Low-Pressure Over Central Andaman Sea To Turn Depression Tomorrow

The low-pressure system formed over the Central Andaman Sea has been active and will intensify into Depression by tomorrow while moving in West-Southwest direction, informed the Bhubaneswar Centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

According to reports, the system is likely to make landfall on North Andhra-South Odisha coasts in the early hours of December 4.

Under its influence, rainfall activities will commence from the evening/ night of December 3, informed the met office.

According to the Met dept, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri and Jagatsinghpur on December 3rd.

On December 4, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Balasore, Jajpur district are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Puri, and Jagatsinghpur.

An orange warning has also been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, and Mayurbhanj on December 5 and 6, with very heavy rainfall forecast.

Meanwhile, the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has instructed administrative officials in the districts falling under ‘Yellow and Orange’ warning category (heavy rainfall alert as issued by IMD) to remain prepared to meet any waterlogging or localised flood-like situation, including in urban areas. The officials have been asked to keep a watch on the possibilities of landslides in hilly areas.
