With the monsoon making an early onset over Kerala, people in several parts of the country are looking forward to the arrival of the southwest monsoon in their respective regions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday informed that the conditions are favourable for further advance of the southwest monsoon into the remaining parts of the central Arabian Sea, some more parts of Maharashtra and the remaining parts of Karnataka.

What IMD Says About Monsoon Advancement?

Apart from the above states, there is possibility and conditions are also favourable for advancement of monsoon in some more parts of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, some parts of Chhattisgarh and Odisha, most parts of west-central and some more parts of North Bay of Bengal and remaining parts of northeastern states and some parts of West Bengal and Sikkim during the next 2-3 days, said IMD.

Meanwhile, a low pressure area has formed over northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal today. As per IMD, the associated cyclonic circulation extends upto 7.6 km above mean sea level, tilting southwards with height. It is likely to move slowly northwards and become more marked during the next 48 hours.

It is pertinent to mention here that on May 24, the Southwest Monsoon had set in over Kerala against the normal date of June 1. This year, the southwest monsoon had set in over Kerala almost eight days before the normal date.

As per the IMD, this was the earliest date of monsoon onset over Kerala after 2009, when it had set in over Kerala on 23rd May of that year.
