Even though people in several parts of Odisha woke up to clear skies on Monday after more than a week of torrential rain and wet weather, a fresh low pressure area is knocking on the doors of the state again.
According to a fresh weather update from the India Meteorological Department, a new low pressure is likely to form over north-west Bay of Bengal (BoB) around August 19. It is expected that several parts of the state will experience rainfall activities under the influence of the system.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday said that there is possibility of formation of another low pressure area around August 19, 2022.
HR Biswas, Director of IMD’s Regional Centre in Bhubaneswar today said that along with the monsoon surge, a low pressure is likely to form around August 19. As per Biswas, several parts of western Odisha including Nupada, Bolangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda and Nabarangpur today experienced heavy rainfall activities.
“There will be a considerable drop in the rainfall activities in different parts of Odisha including upper catchment areas of Hirakud from tomorrow. There are chances of increase in rainfall activities with heavy rainfall likely in several parts of the state on August 18,” said Biswas.
As per IMD, the depression over North Chhattisgarh and neighbourhood moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 30 kmph during last 6 hours and lay centered over East Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Chhattisgarh about 80 km west of Pendra Road (Chhattisgarh), 80 km east-northeast of Mandla (Madhya Pradesh) and 120 km east of Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh).
The system is very likely to continue to move west-northwestwards and weaken gradually during next 12 hours.
