Though cyclone Asani has not inflicted much damage to Odisha, close on the heels of the severe cyclonic storm, threat of the formation of another low pressure area over Bay of Bengal now looms large.
As per India Meteorological Department (IMD) sources, the new low pressure area is likely to be formed over the Central Bay of Bengal by May 19.
“The system will enter South Andaman Sea in a day or two, and the form and the effect of the low pressure area could be predicted following the development,” said an IMD official.
IMD has predicted that Southwest monsoon is likely to advance into South Andaman Sea and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal around May 15. Under the influence of the possible cyclone, monsoon will be further active.
Meanwhile, most part of the interior Odisha continues to reel under severe heatwave conditions. Titlagarh was the hottest city in the State with a day temperature of 43.2 degree Celsius on Saturday.
As per Meteorological Centre Bhubaneswar, as many as 11 areas in the State recorded maximum day temperature of more than 40 degree Celsius in the last 24 hours.
While Sonepur recorded the second highest temperature of 43 degree Celsius, Sundargarh was in the third place with 42.5 degree Celsius.
Jharsuguda (42.4), Bolangir (42.2), Deogarh (42), Bhawanipatna (41.8), Sambalpur (41.6), Nuapada (41), Bargarh (40.5) and Malkangiri (40) were behind Sundargarh in terms of experiencing maximum day temperature.
