New Delhi: The war of words between Digvijay Singh and Team Anna today saw the Congress leader accuse the social activist of harbouring Presidential ambitions while the Gandhian`s aides charged the ruling party with engaging in politics of deceit and corruption.

Speaking at the All-India Kshatriya Federation convention in Agra, Singh- who is the Convenor of the body- said, "I don`t know how true it is but I have been told that Anna has been offered to be made the all party candidate for the Presidential elections in 2012. Anna always says he is not in politics but I have been told, BJP offered him all-party presidential candidate in 2012."

Hazare`s associate Arvind Kejriwal hit out at Singh and the Congress, saying, "Some people say we are doing politics. We have been saying from the beginning that we are doing politics. But we don`t do party or vote bank politics but politics for the people. Congress do politics of corruption, of power, of dishonesty and betrayal."

Kejriwal also criticised Singh for his reported comments that Hisar bypoll was not important for the Congress. "I think this is an insult to the voters of Hisar and they should see and figure out for themselves that Congress is openly saying it does not want their votes, then why should they vote for the party," he added. Singh also took on Hazare for his reported comments that he will hold a three-day fast to press for defeating the Congress just before the Uttar Pradesh elections.

"Congress has not been in power for 20 years. He would not sit on a fast against corruption and Mayawati and Mulayam Singh Yadav who have cases of disproportionate income going on against them in the Supreme Court. They are honest but Congress is dishonest. It seems all those people who are against the Congress have surrounded a simple man like Anna and are selling him dreams," Singh said.

The Congress general secretary alleged that while earlier Hazare had opposed his statement of RSS support to his movement, and said he should be sent to a mental asylum, now Sangh Parivar founthead`s chief Mohan Bhagwat has himself admitted that his organisation was supporting the fast. "I have RSS letters in which it is mentioned that the organisation should support movements of Baba Ramdev and Anna Hazare. Now what I had said has turned out to be true," Singh said.

He alleged that Team Anna members- Kiran Bedi, Shanti Bhushan, Kejriwal, Prashant Bhushan and Justice Santosh Hegde- are "anti-Congress in their thinking. Justice Hegde is the son of former Lok Sabha Speaker Ram Krishna Hegde who had terminated the Lok Sabha membership of Indira Gandhi," Singh said.
