Ed Sheeran, the celebrated English singer-songwriter, was stopped from performing on the bustling street of Bengaluru. Despite prior permission, the police halted him as he attempted to perform.

The unusual incident took place on Church Street where Sheeran began serenading pedestrians with his hit song 'Shape of You'. However, moments into the performance, police officials intervened and unplugged his microphone.

The video of a cop unplugging his microphone has gone viral with netizens divided over the incident. Many asked Ed Sheeran to sing in Kannada (the language row) while others supported the cops.

“He should have sung a Kannada song maybe,” shared a fan. Another user shared, “Even though, he had the permission. Literally! The cops pulled the plug. Damn sad!”

“He is an international star. Maybe the cops do not know him,” shared another fan.

This surprise street performance comes ahead of Sheeran's scheduled concerts in the city, with one having taken place on Saturday. He is scheduled to perform at NICE Grounds today.

Bengaluru holds the unique distinction of being the only Indian city on Sheeran's Mathematics Tour to host consecutive nights. This additional concert was organised following an overwhelming demand for tickets.

Earlier, talking to media, Sheeran shared his enthusiasm before his performance and said, “Every time I come back to India, it feels more and more exciting. The success metric from 2014 didn't show how much my music was appreciated here. It was only after visiting in 2015 that I truly realised the popularity of my music in India. Now, it's undeniable that India is one of my largest markets.”

The Mathematics Tour takes its inspiration from Sheeran's bestselling albums – 'Plus', 'Multiply', 'Divide', 'Equals', and 'Subtract'. This tour marks his return to Indian shores following visits in 2015 and 2017, reiterating his substantial fan base across the country.
