Recently, an image circulated on social media which claimed that a new Rs 7 coin would be released to honour Mahendra Singh Dhoni for his contributions to Indian cricket.

Who can forget jersey no.7 which was once donned by the former skipper of Indian cricket team Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Dhoni, who is popularly called Thala for a reason, still rules the hearts of millions of fans across the world for his ‘captain cool’ image and down-to-earth personality.

Recently, an image circulated on social media which claimed that a new Rs 7 coin would be released to honour Mahendra Singh Dhoni for his contributions to Indian cricket.

Soon the image went viral, generating comments from cricket fans. A PIB Fact check revealed that the claim made in the image is fake.

The Department of Economic Affairs has not made any such announcement.

Any announcement regarding the release of any new coin or currency can be verified from the official website of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

When we visited the official RBI website, there was no such announcement regarding the Rs 7 coin honouring the cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
