Education costs in India are skyrocketing, but a Bengaluru school’s eye-popping fee structure for the 2025–26 academic year has left the internet stunned. A viral post has revealed that parents of Grade 1 students at this international school need to shell out a staggering Rs 7.35 lakh per year, and that’s just the base fee.
Shocking Fee Breakdown
The snapshot, shared on X (formerly Twitter), shows that students enrolled in the Primary Years Programme (Grades 1–5) are charged Rs 3,67,500 per term, totaling Rs 7,35,000 annually. The fee structure doesn’t end there, a Rs 1 lakh non-refundable admission fee and an application fee of Rs 1,000 are also part of the package.
For senior students in Grades 11 and 12, the tuition skyrockets to Rs 11 lakh per year, excluding expenses like uniforms, books, transportation, or extracurricular activities. This means parents could end up spending Rs 8 lakh or more annually per child.
Mixed Reactions Online
The viral post has triggered a storm of reactions. While some argue such fees are a choice for those seeking elite education, others slammed the “commercialization of learning.”
One user remarked, “The American International School Chennai charges Rs 27 lakh; such schools are for those who can afford them.” Another countered, “Education is a basic right, not a luxury.”
Another comment added, “Education and medical institutions in Bengaluru have become greedy. Most are run by politicians, and there’s no regulation.”
A Bigger Question
The debate has reignited calls for strict regulation of private school fees, highlighting the growing financial burden on parents seeking quality education for their children.
