Six Rounds Done, Then a Phone Call Changed Everything
As per Hindu tradition, a couple completes seven sacred rounds called pheras around the holy fire to solemnise the marriage. This couple had completed six when the groom received a mysterious phone call. What followed stunned everyone: the groom abruptly refused to continue with the final phera, effectively calling off the marriage on the spot.
According to local sources, the groom appeared visibly disturbed after answering the call, which villagers claim came from a girl. The sudden change of heart raised eyebrows and tempers alike.

Bride’s Family Holds Groom Hostage
Reacting with shock and anger, the bride’s family reportedly took the groom, his father, and several relatives hostage at the wedding venue. The situation grew tense, prompting local police to intervene.
Veer Singh, the officer in charge of Nadoti Police Station, confirmed that statements were recorded but both families declined to lodge official complaints. “The matter is being dealt with at the community level,” he said.
Panchayat Steps In, Rs 56 Lakh at Stake
With emotions running high and reputations on the line, the matter was handed over to the local panchayat—a village council led by respected elder Panch Patel. The bride’s family alleges they spent around Rs 56 lakh on the wedding, and the panchayat is now debating whether the groom’s side should compensate the family for the unexpected cancellation.
