In a strange twist of fate, a crocodile became an unlikely saviour for a woman who had jumped into the Ganga River to end her life.

The incident took place in Unnao district, where Malti, a middle-aged woman, allegedly took the extreme step after a heated argument with her husband. In despair, she left her house and went to the banks of Ganga, where she leapt into the river, intending to drown.

But moments after plunging into the water, Malti spotted a crocodile nearby. Terrified, she abandoned her attempt and began swimming frantically to save herself. Somehow, she managed to reach the riverbank and climbed a tree to escape the reptile.

According to police, Malti spent the entire night perched on the tree, too scared to come down as the crocodile lingered in the water below. Her cries for help eventually alerted villagers, who informed the authorities.

A police team reached the spot the next morning and safely rescued her. Officers said she had been traumatised but was grateful to have survived.

Locals have described the incident as nothing short of miraculous, with some calling it ‘a second life’ for Malti. Ironically, the very crocodile she feared ended up deterring her suicide attempt and giving her a chance to live again.
