In a bizarre incident, a girl reportedly called off her wedding in Hyderabad after the groom failed to pay her ‘reverse dowry’ she demanded according to her tribe’s traditions.
According to Siasat report, the bride had sought a dowry of Rs two lakhs keeping with her tribe's custom of paying prospective brides "reverse dowry.
The groom’s family had also agreed to it and given her the money for the wedding. The groom’s family had made all the arrangements for the wedding on the outskirts of Hyderabad which was scheduled to be held on March 9. However, the bride didn’t turn up at the wedding venue on the D–day.
Taken aback by no signs of the bride and her family at the wedding venue, the groom’s family rushed to the hotel where the bride and her family members were staying.
After reaching the venue, they demanded an explanation. When the bride's family revealed that bride wanted more dowry, the groom's family was surprised.
Later, the groom’s family approached the police, and the bride’s family was called to discuss the matter. As the bride was certain about her choice, the money was returned. The wedding was cancelled and both families parted ways amicably.
