Brave High School football coach stops ‘mass shooting’ by hugging student armed with gun
A high school football coach is being hailed as a hero after he stopped mass shooting by hugging a student and seizing his gun. The brave coach at Parkrose High School in Portland, Oregon, offered a tight hug to the student who had come to the school with a shotgun.
The student walked into a classroom with a shotgun, leaving everyone terrified. Students and teachers feared a mass shooting and ran helter-skelter to save their lives. However, reports suggest the student was depressed and wanted to take his own life with the shotgun.
However, the brave coach, Keanon Lowe, approached the student and gave him a tight hug. Soon, another teacher came and seized the gun from the boy. The coach continues to hug the boy until his anger is under control.
The coach wraps the student in his arms and rubs his back and holds him close. They’re later seen sitting on the floor of the hallway as police arrive and arrest the student.
“At that time, I felt compassion for him. A lot of times, especially when you’re young, you don’t realize what you’re doing until it's over,” New York Times quoted the coach.
He further clarified that the student had no intention of harming anyone besides himself. Now, the coach is being hailed as a hero online.
“When you're in pain, a hug can save your life. So many people are touch starved these days - loneliness kills. Hero coach 💜” shared a user.
Another user wrote, “This is a wholesome moment to see. But the preconditions that allow kids to be able to access these weapons and the mindset to choose to cause others harm is what needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency.”
