Unsuccessful attempt to loot cash from 2 ATMs

Berhampur (Odisha): Unidentified miscreants made an unsuccessful attempt to loot cash from two ATMs of State Bank of India (SBI) from separate places here in the wee hours of Monday, police said.

The miscreants damaged the ATM badly at Chandrama Street by uprooting some of its parts and setting afire in the room after failing in their bid. They also tried to loot the box with opening some screws attached to the ATM located at Hillpatna here, police said.

The miscreants have carried out the operation after covering the CCTV, which was installed in the ATM rooms while there was no security guard deployed in either of the places.

The police and the bank staff were not in a position to say whether any cash was looted. "The fact could be asserained only after verification of the cash said a senior officer of the bank. The ATMs of the bank are managed by a private agency, when the bank out sourced its maintenance."

"Since the miscreants covered the CCTV cameras during their operation, it is difficult to say the number of the persons involved in the incident", SP (Berhampur) Prateek Mohanty said after visiting the spot. Police suspected that one group might be involved in both the cases.
