Two arrested in connection with rape incidents

One Hemanta Mukhi (20)of a slum in sector-6 area of the steel city was arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping a 70-year old woman on Thursday while the old lady was returning home in the slum.

Hemanta forcibly took her to a nearby bush and left her beside a nullah after raping her. She was rescued in a semi-conscious condition by local people the following morning and admitted her to Rourkela Government Hospital. The woman filed a complaint against Hemanta at the women`s police station here on Sunday. Hemanta was today forwarded to court which remanded him to jail custody.

In an another incident, one Joseph Kiro (22), was arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping his 75-year old grandmother at Jodakudara village, about 70 km from here. Police said, the old woman filed a complaint against her grandson. Joseph was forwarded to a court at Banai which remanded him to jail custody.
