Balasore: A tribal woman from Balasore is alleged to have been raped by a `tantrik`, who was consulted by her family after she failed to bear child two years after marriage, police said on Wednesday.

Ajay Singh (22) of Mitrapur village under Nilagiri police station area had married the tribal two years ago but the couple remained issueless.

The family consulted a `tantrik` Gadadhar Goswami of village Purulia under Baghamundi police station in West Bengal who assured the family that "after some rituals the woman would bear a child positively".

Trusting the tantrik, the tribal family left the woman with him in a room for some puja, where she was raped, police said quoting her complaint.

Police arrested the tantrik and two others for abetting the crime.
