In a bizarre incident from Uttar Pradesh's Hapur district, a couple ended up at the police station — not over infidelity, finances, or family pressure, but due to an ongoing battle over Instagram reels. The husband alleged that his wife is obsessed with making short videos for social media and pays little to no attention to household duties.
“She’s always busy filming, editing, and posting content. Our meals are delayed, the house is in disarray, and she’s constantly on her phone. I feel like I live with a content creator, not a partner,” he told the police in frustration.
The wife, however, had her own side of the story. She claimed that managing both content creation and domestic responsibilities was becoming overwhelming.
“Reels are not just for fun — they are part of my identity now. When I miss my posting schedule due to household work, I lose followers and my reach drops. It’s like running a small business, and no one understands the pressure,” she explained.
The couple’s argument, which started at home, escalated and culminated in a visit to the police station, where authorities offered counseling rather than filing any formal complaint. Police advised both to find a balance between digital aspirations and real-life responsibilities.
The incident has gone viral online, sparking debate over how social media addiction is impacting relationships — with many calling it a classic clash between the virtual and the domestic.
