Amid escalating tensions at India’s borders, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has sparked outrage online by demanding a two-day public holiday to mark Maharana Pratap Jayanti. While many acknowledge the historical significance of the Rajput warrior, netizens were quick to criticize the timing of Yadav’s demand, calling it a distraction from the pressing national security concerns.

Speaking to the media, Yadav stated, “We demand the government to provide 2 days leave on the occasion of Maharana Pratap Jayanti, so that we can make preparations on one day and celebrate the festival the next day. At places, his statue has been made. At the riverfront, we have announced plans to build a park in the name of great men...If there is any statue to be built on the riverfront is going to be best...The sword with that 'statue', will be of gold.”

Social media platforms were flooded with angry reactions. Hashtags like #SendAkhileshToLOC and #MisplacedPriorities trended on X (formerly Twitter), as users accused the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister of indulging in petty politics while the nation stood on the brink of potential conflict.

Social Media Reaction:

“Dear Sir Akhilesh Yadav, are you satirizing Maharana Pratap's legacy, the government, or perhaps your own storied history of political appeasement? Because let's be honest, demanding a two-day holiday and a golden sword statue feels less like honoring a warrior and more like polishing your own political armor. After all, it's quite the pivot from your party's recent 'traitor' comments about his ancestor. Are we celebrating history, or just trying to rewrite it for the next election cycle? inquiring minds want to know!” shared a user.

Another user shared, “Akhilesh Yadav wants a holiday while our soldiers are preparing for war. Send him to the LOC if he wants to be useful.”

“National security is not a joke. Stop using history for vote bank politics,” shared another user.

Netizens on social media argued that while cultural observances are important, leaders must show unity and seriousness during times of war.
