Like everyone, Ramabai Latpate, a Pune-based woman, wants to go on a world tour. But what makes her different from others is her extraordinary travel plan to cover 80,000 kilometres and 40 counties on a bike while wearing Maharashtrian nauvari saree.

Motivated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ramabai began her solo bike ride tour on International Women’s Day (March 8) from Mumbai’s Gateway of India. From Mumbai, she will head to Delhi and then her bike will be flown to Australia.

As part of her mission, Ramabai will be travelling to 12 G20 member nations, 30 other countries including Australia, New Zealand, France, New York, Morocco and Dubai. She will ride through 80,000 kilometres covering a total of about 40 nations spread over six continents.

An entrepreneur and pilot, Ramabai claimed that she sold off her SUV and gold jewellery to fuel her expenses during her solo ride that may last for one year and cost more than Rs 1 crore. She also made a crowdfunding request for Rs 1 per person for her expenses.

Ramabai will also cover a 1600-kilometre stretch between Perth and Sydney that does not have proper human settlement and mobile network connectivity.

A confident Ramabai says whatever obstacle may come her way, nothing can deter her from achieving her goal.
