The astronomical figure, so large it reportedly surpassed the net worth of the world’s wealthiest billionaires, quickly caught public attention, but the celebration was short-lived.

The man, identified as Deepak, resides in Unchi Dankaur, Greater Noida. According to his account, he logged into his late mother’s Kotak Mahindra Bank savings account on the evening of August 2 and was stunned to see a balance running into undecillions.

The story quickly gained traction online, with users humorously declaring that Deepak had surpassed business tycoons like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Mukesh Ambani, overnight. Memes, jokes, and exaggerated news posts flooded timelines, calling him the “new richest man on Earth.”
Bank’s Response
However, Kotak Mahindra Bank swiftly moved to clarify the situation. In an official statement, the bank 'refuted the viral claims' and denied that any such astronomical credit had actually been made.
The bank stated, “There has been no such transaction in our systems. The reported figures circulating online are not factual.”
Bank officials explained that it could have been a 'display glitch' or an error in how the account information was viewed, but they emphasised that no such amount was ever credited. The account in question, they confirmed, remains 'at a zero balance'.

Account Frozen, Investigation Ordered
Reportedly, after reports went viral, the bank temporarily 'froze the account' as a precaution and initiated an internal review. The Income Tax Department and other relevant authorities were informed of the unusual incident, though no wrongdoing was suspected on the part of the account holder.
