We all in our lives must have taken leave or called in sick at work at least once. However, a few people like Melba Mebane from Texas, United States belong to the other category that have unwavering loyalty to their work and never miss a day at work. She recently bid farewell after an astonishing 74-year-long streak by never missing a single day of work.

The 90-year-old started her career as an "elevator girl" at the Mayer & Schmidt department store in Tyler, Texas in 1949. It was later acquired by Dillard's in 1956. Melba started working in men's clothing and cosmetology in the years that followed. 

Now, after an impressive career, the 90-year-old retired, leaving behind scores of colleagues and clients who grew to love her.

"Melba sets the tone for everything, every expectation, every customer service quality that we look for in a luxury experience," James Saenz, store manager of Dillard's in Tyler told Fox News.

"She's not just a salesperson. She's a mother. She guides you. She gives you life advice. She's amazing,” he added.

Mebane, speaking to ABC affiliate KAKE, expressed her fondness for everyone at the store and her joy in going to work each day. 

There was a celebration on Saturday (July 1) to honour Mebane's decades of work and dedication. She even got a certificate of excellence award for being the store's longest-working employee.
