In a shocking turn of events, a man who had spent Rs 55L on his wife-to-be was left devastated after he learnt that she was already married. The man, a Chinese professional, was left reeling after he uncovered her deception, according to South China Morning Post.
According to the South China Morning Post, the man identified as Shin from Hubei province, came across an advertisement for wedding planning services. There, he met a woman named Shaoyu. The two quickly struck a chord, with regular chats that eventually developed into a long-distance romantic relationship.
However, Shaoyu, soon started demanding money from Shin claiming it to be ‘Bride Price’, which was a traditional custom in some parts of China. She also took additional money for gifts claiming to be for her sister and medical expenses for her mother.

During their one year of ‘dating’, Shaoyu took more than Rs 55L from Shin on various pretexts. After almost a year of online dating, Shin finally met Shaoyu and was stunned to see her real face. She appeared different in the pictures and explained that it was due to the excessive use of filters.
Despite this, Shin decided to marry her and continued sending her money. However, he finally one day found out that the woman was cheating on her with the help of her whole family. The woman had orchestrated the entire fraud to extort money from him.
Further investigation revealed that she was already married and was a mother of a child. She had been using the wedding plan services to scam people. After releasing that he was cheated, Shin reported the matter to the local police who later confirmed that the woman was running an organised criminal gang targeting unsuspecting individuals seeking love or marriage online.
