Henry Fischel, an American businessman, and philanthropist introduced the concept of exam in the late 19th century. The first-ever exam was held in China and thus became the first country to adopt the concept.
The first exam conducted in China was known as the Imperial Examination. The Imperial examination was conducted to choose the meritorious students to work in the Government. This system was in operation under Emperor Yang of Sui.
