In a bizarre incident, a Japanese tourist had to seek the intervention of the police after she was charged a whopping Rs 56, 000 ($680) for a crab dish. The woman who had visited a restaurant with her friends was left speechless on seeing the bill.
She informed the cops that she wasn’t properly informed about the cost of the dish, a report in the New York Post stated. The bizarre incident has been reported from a restaurant in Singapore.
As per Singaporean outlet AsiaOne, Junko Shinba had been to dine at the Seafood Paradise restaurant with her friends. Later, they ordered the restaurant’s signature Alaskan king chili crab after being recommended by a waiter.
Even as the waiter mentioned the crab dish was priced at $20, the bill they received was $680. Later, it was learnt that the charge was $20 per 100 grams. The tourist claimed that she was not informed of the total weight of the crab before it was cooked and thought it was $20 as recommended by the waiter.
Speaking to media, the tourist said, “We all became speechless knowing that one dinner for four adults cost that much. None of us were informed that the whole crab would be cooked only for us, as some other restaurants serve crabs partially.”
Shocked at the bills, the women called the police to the scene. However, the restaurant showed them a receipt from another customer who had ordered a similar dish. After some discussion, the restaurant agreed to give her a discount of about $78 (Rs 6479) out of goodwill.
Meanwhile, reports suggest the woman has lodged a complaint with the Consumers Association of Singapore.
