A wave of anger has swept across social media platforms with the hashtag #BoycottAmazon trending, after netizens discovered a ‘controversial’ e-book titled "Kali Ma: A Collection of Short Stories” being sold on the platform.
The book cover has sparked intense backlash for depicting Hindu goddess Kali in a disturbing manner — shown hanging from a rope.
Promoting anti-Hindu Sentiments:
Users have accused Amazon of promoting anti-Hindu sentiment and disrespecting religious beliefs. The outrage intensified as screenshots of the book cover circulated widely online.
Many have called for a nationwide boycott of the e-commerce giant, urging the Indian government to intervene and ban or at least place strict regulatory restrictions on Amazon’s operations in the country.
“This is not the first time Amazon has insulted Hindu sentiments,” wrote one user, sharing examples of Hindu deities previously printed on slippers, doormats, and toilet covers sold on the platform.
Social Media Reaction:
Another user posted, “Boycott Amazon. We will not tolerate any disrespect of our Gods & Goddesses. Amazon is regularly doing it. Hamare India ka young generation chutiya hai, innlogo ko koi farak nhi parega.”
Activists and religious groups have joined the demand for action, claiming the repeated instances of such listings point to a pattern of cultural insensitivity or deliberate provocation.
As of now, Amazon has not issued an official statement regarding the controversy. However, pressure is mounting on the company to remove the book and issue a public apology. The incident has reignited debates on censorship, corporate accountability, and the respect of religious sentiments in global marketplaces.
