A stunning red Ferrari SF90 Stradale, one of the most high-end sports cars recently seen on Bengaluru’s streets, was seized by transport authorities on Thursday. The car, valued at a staggering Rs 7.5 crore, drew attention not just from car enthusiasts but also from enforcement agencies after repeated sightings in the city.

RTO Acts on Tip-Off, Tracks Ferrari

According to reports from NDTV, officials from the Bengaluru South Regional Transport Office (RTO) acted swiftly on a tip-off. They tracked down the Maharashtra-registered Ferrari and verified its registration details and tax compliance. Their investigation revealed the car had not paid the mandatory Karnataka road tax despite being driven regularly on city roads.

Owner Issued Notice, Pays Record Penalty

Upon confirmation of the tax evasion, the RTO seized the vehicle and issued a notice to the owner, instructing them to clear the dues by Thursday evening. The notice warned of legal action if the payment was not made on time. The owner responded promptly, paying a hefty sum of Rs 1,41,59,041, covering both the pending tax and associated penalties. Officials confirmed this as one of the highest single-vehicle tax recoveries in recent years.

Part of Broader Crackdown on Luxury Cars

This seizure is part of a larger enforcement drive launched by the Karnataka transport department earlier this year. In February, authorities confiscated 30 luxury vehicles in Bengaluru for similar violations, often involving out-of-state registrations used to evade Karnataka’s road tax.

Transport officials continue to monitor gatherings of luxury and exotic car owners, particularly weekend drives, where vehicles with non-Karnataka plates are frequently spotted. These efforts have proven crucial in identifying tax evaders and enforcing compliance.
