1) Vande Bharat Express
Vande Bharat Express is currently the fastest train in India. Its maximum speed is 180 km/h. This train is pulled by electric locomotive WAP-5. There are two rakes of Vande Bharat Express trains and they are Varanasi-New Delhi Bande Bharat Express and Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat Express.
Worth mentioning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the train on February 15, 2019.
2) Gatiman Express
Prior to the introduction of Vande Bharat Express, Gatiman Express was the fastest train in India. It runs at a speed of 160 km/h. Its speed can be understood from the fact that it covers the distance between Delhi and Agra in just 100 minutes.
It starts its journey from Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station in Delhi and ends at Agra Cantonment.
This train is a luxurious train providing world-class facilities providing to its passengers.
3) New Delhi-Bhopal Shatabdi Express
Shatabdi Express, which runs between New Delhi and Habibganj, a suburban railway station in Bhopal, had enjoyed the glory of being the fastest train in India for quite long time, before introduction of Gatiman Express.
The permissible top speed of this train is 150 km/h.
4) Mumbai-New Delhi Rajdhani Express
Inaugurated on May 17, 1972, the Mumbai-New Delhi Rajdhani Express is one of the fastest trains in India. Its permissible top speed is 140km/h. It covers the distance between Mumbai and New Delhi (1384km) in just 15 hours and 50 minutes.
New Delhi-Kanpur Shatabdi Express also travels at a speed of 140 km/h. These two trains share the honour of being the 4th fastest trains in India.
5) New Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani Express/Bikaner-New Delhi-Sealdah Duronto Express
At the fifth position, there are two trains-New Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani Express and Bikaner-New Delhi-Sealdah Duronto Express.
Launched on March 3, 1969, this Rajdhani Express runs between New Delhi and Howrah in Kolkata. While its average speed is 88km/h it reaches a maximum speed of 135 km/h during the journey. In fact, this is the first Rajdhani Express and fully air-conditioned train in India.
Bikaner-New Delhi-Sealdah Duronto Express also travels at a speed of 135km/h. These two trains are also famous for their speed.
