"We have decided in consultation with the party`s central leadership, not to attend the meet, as convening a meeting of political parties which are deeply divided on the issue of separate statehood of Telangana, is an exercise in futility," state BJP president G Kishan Reddy told reporters here.
In a letter to state BJP chief, Chidambaram had requested him to nominate two representatives to attend the meeting as the Central government wanted to share the report with eight recognised political parties of Andhra Pradesh on January 6, before making the report public.
The meeting was called to merely discuss the report of the Srikrishna Committee which the BJP does not recognise and has always opposed it, Reddy said.
The only way to solve the problem was to commence the constitutional process for bifurcation of the state, he said.
Claiming that more than 400 youths and students, who had lost faith in the UPA, resorted to suicides last year, Reddy said, "These precious lives would have been saved if the UPA government had taken the decision for a separate Telangana as it promised."
Stating that his party was always in favour of separate Telangana state, Reddy said it had categorically made its stand clear in the meeting called by the Home Minister last year.
The state party chief also demanded that the UPA government introduce the Telangana bill in the coming budget session of the Parliament and the BJP would extend its support to it.
