For instance, a 65 years old woman in Mumbai reportedly lost Rs 7 lakh to online fraudsters.
She got a message that looked real about not paying her electricity bill, but it was actually fake.

The Fraudulent SMS:
According to a report by ANI, the woman received an SMS on her husband's phone regarding an unpaid electricity bill.
The message warned that the electricity connection would be cut if a bill wasn't paid on time. The woman believed it was real and called the number given in the message.
However, the person who answered the woman's call claimed to be from Adani Electricity and asked her to download an app called "Team Viewer Quick Support." The woman followed their instructions and gave them her ID and passcode, which let them control her phone.
The scammers then conducted three transactions totaling Rs 6,91,859, which were taken from her account. She later found out she was tricked and reported it to the police.
How to Stay Safe from Cyber Fraud:
To avoid falling victim to cyber fraud, it is important to take precautions.
For instance, don't click on links from unknown numbers, as scammers often use these to get access to your phone or steal money from your bank account.
Additionally, it is important to note that banks and government organizations don't ask for OTP or app downloads to pay bills.
If you receive a message like this, delete it, block the user, and inform your bank or the police.
