Elon Musk, Twitter CEO hinted at a significant change to Twitter's post format after the return of Twitter Blue in an 80s-inspired logo, confirming that the social media platform is getting ready to boost its character limit from 280 to 4,000 characters.
A Twitter user named Allan Obare asked Mr Musk in a comment on Sunday that, “Elon is it true that Twitter is set to increase the characters from 280 to 4000?" to which Mr Musk said, "Yes," in response.
Twitter increased its character limit from 140 to 280 in 2017. This was the last time this happened. The astounding 14 times increase hasn't been proven due to Musk's willingness for changing his mind.
Twitter users have the option to establish Threads for postings that are longer than this to maintain continuity. With the limit raised to 4000, it's probable that Twitter will discontinue Threads and users will start creating lengthy blogs similar to those on Facebook and LinkedIn.
Regardless of the precise figure, Mr Musk had previously suggested in November that he was leaning toward a much more modest increase of about 1,000 characters as the maximum limit. In an effort to increase openness, he also hinted at upcoming developments that include the publication of view counts.
In the meanwhile, on Sunday, Twitter started rolling out "Community Notes" to all users globally. According to the business, Community Notes seek to build a better informed society by allowing Twitter users to collectively add context to potentially incorrect Tweets.
Monday also saw the launch of the revamped Twitter Blue, and the service is now more expensive for Apple customers. The updated Blue membership now includes access to the tweet editing function, 1080p video uploading, and the blue tick on their profile. Twitter costs $8 about Rs 640 for the web version and $11 for the iPhone version which is Rs 880 approximately.
