Mismatched Details
In a tweet, the Income Tax Portal in India's handle stated that the Income Tax Department is aware of the challenges individuals face when there are discrepancies in their details while linking PAN with Aadhaar.
Errors can arise in the name, date of birth, and gender, leading to discrepancies. To tackle this issue, the department has implemented a dedicated protocol for making corrections.
This allows individuals to resolve the discrepancies and successfully link their Aadhaar and PAN cards.
Updating Aadhaar Card Details
To update the address details on your Aadhaar card, you can use the online self-service update portal (SSUP) provided by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
Simply visit ssup.uidai.gov.in/ssup/ to access the portal and conveniently update your address information.
However, if you need to update other demographic details such as name, date of birth, gender, mobile number, email, or biometric information like fingerprints, or photograph, you will need to visit a Permanent Enrolment Center in person for the necessary updates.
Updating PAN Card Details
If you need to update your PAN card details online, you can visit either the NSDL PAN website (onlineservices.nsdl.com/) or the UTIITSL website (pan.utiitsl.com/).
When you arrive at the designated location, choose the option labeled "Modify/Rectify PAN card information.
Provide your PAN card number and other necessary information, then proceed to fill out the form with the updated details.
You'll also need to upload scanned copies of supporting documents.
After paying the application fee, you can submit the updated details.
Linking PAN and Aadhaar
After completing the necessary updates, individuals can proceed to link their PAN and Aadhaar through the e-filing portal accessible at eportal.incometax.gov.in
It is important to link the two as required by section 139AA of the Income-tax Act, 1961.
Failing to do so may result in the PAN becoming inoperative, which can cause various inconveniences.
Additional Options for Linking
In case the initial attempt to link PAN with Aadhaar fails, individuals have the option to use biometric-based authentication by paying a nominal fee of 50 rupees.
However, it is important to remember that certain individuals are exempted from the requirement of linking PAN with Aadhaar.
This exemption applies to individuals who are 80 years of age or older, non-residents as defined in the Income-tax Act, and non-Indian citizens.
