Movie Rating Scam

As per the report from TOI, the movie rating scam takes advantage of people's eagerness to make money by offering them part-time jobs to rate movies online.

In this particular incident, a 43-year-old doctor living in Gokul Township, Virar (West), received a message on the Telegram app, offering him a part-time job to earn money by rating movies online, as per the report.

Curious about the opportunity, the doctor shared his bank details with the scammer, who assured him of opening a new bank account for commission transfers.

Initially, the doctor received movie tickets to rate and even paid a commission of Rs 830.

The scammer, in an effort to raise the commission amounts, instructed the doctor to deposit money into an unfamiliar bank account.

Trusting the legitimacy of the scheme, the doctor transferred Rs 9,900.

As time went on, the commissions increased significantly, ultimately reaching a staggering Rs 1.96 crore.

To make matters worse, the victim was forced into paying an additional Rs 8 lakh as 'income tax' to avoid an alleged income tax raid.

The doctor already deposited Rs 1.09 crore to recover the commission and later realised that he had been cheated.

Subsequently, the victim approached the police and lodged an FIR.
