India's first UPI-ATM, a White Label ATM (WLA), was recently introduced by Hitachi Payment Services in collaboration with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
This innovative ATM allows card-less cash withdrawals.
A FinTech creator named Ravisutan Jani, on the X platform, shared a video demonstrating the functionality of the UPI-ATM.
To make a successful transaction at a UPI ATM, users must have a UPI app installed on their Android or iOS smartphones. The UPI-ATM operates based on QR codes for UPI cash withdrawals.
In the video on the X platform, the creator demonstrated how to withdraw cash from this ATM using the UPI method.
The video began with the creator mentioning that the UPI ATM was developed in Mumbai.
To initiate a withdrawal, users need to tap on the screen, and a message saying 'Welcome to UPI ATM' appears on the screen. Now the user has to choose the 'UPI CARDLESS CASH' option.
After that user can select the amount, they wish to withdraw from options like "100, 500, 1000, 2000, and 5000." Once a choice is made, a QR code is displayed on the screen.
Next, users are required to open any UPI-linked app, such as BHIM UPI, to scan the QR code and transfer the chosen amount to the ATM.
After the transfer is completed, the ATM displays a message saying, "Please wait, we are processing your transaction." Following this, the ATM dispenses the requested amount, just like a regular ATM.
While the UPI ATM offers many advantages, there are some disadvantages to consider.
Users cannot manually enter the withdrawal amount; it must be within a range of Rs 100 to Rs 5000. Only the mentioned amounts can be withdrawn through the UPI ATM.
Additionally, transactions beyond the allowed free usage limit may incur charges. It is important to note that this unique ATM was developed by the National Payments Corporation of India and is powered by NCR Corporation.
