Meta-owned WhatsApp is making headlines again with a new privacy feature now available in the beta version of the app.
According to a report from WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on adding support for usernames for Android users.
In the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android (2.24.18.2), users can set a username and PIN.
This means that people can now easily share their username and PIN details for chatting. The PIN is important because without it, someone who only knows your username cannot chat with you. This feature aims to reduce spam, a common issue on WhatsApp.
How to activate a username in WhatsApp:
- Open your beta WhatsApp app on your smartphone.
- Go to Settings.
- Click on Privacy.
- Find and select the "Username" option.
- Enter your desired username and click "Create Username."
- Set a PIN for your username.
- Your WhatsApp account will now have an active username.
Benefits Of This Feature
With this update, WhatsApp users can share their username and PIN instead of their phone number, which helps reduce spam and enhances privacy.
Currently, WhatsApp has not announced when this feature will be available to all users, but reports suggest it will be rolled out to everyone soon.
