Have you ever faced the problem of ordering something online while staying in a PG or hostel, and having trouble with receiving the delivery because you are at work or otherwise unavailable?

Often, the security guard or staff at these places cannot handle or store your deliveries due to a lack of funds or facilities, which can be quite inconvenient.

To address this issue, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) recently introduced a new feature called ‘UPI Circle’.

This innovative addition to the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system, rolled out last week, aims to solve these kinds of problems.

What is UPI Circle?

UPI Circle allows UPI users to grant access to their accounts to trusted individuals, even if those individuals do not have their own UPI accounts. This means that secondary users can make transactions on behalf of the primary user.

Key Features and Rules of UPI Circle

Partial Delegation: The primary user must approve each transaction made by the secondary user.

Full Delegation: Secondary users can make transactions up to a set monthly limit without needing prior approval from the primary user.

Transaction Limits

The maximum monthly limit for delegated transactions is Rs. 15,000.

Each individual transaction cannot exceed Rs. 5,000.

For the first 24 hours, the secondary user has a limit of Rs. 5,000.

Monitoring and Security

Primary users can monitor the activities of secondary users through the app.

Different maximum limits can be set for different secondary users, within the overall Rs. 15,000 limit.

Payment requests under partial delegation are valid for 10 minutes, while full delegation transactions are processed within the set monthly limit.

Availability

The UPI Circle feature is expected to launch later this year, with multiple layers of intervention and security measures to ensure its effectiveness.
