With a significant number of smartphone users in India, the country is vulnerable to scams and cybercrimes.
It is vital for individuals to be cautious and proactive.
The Threat
As per the report by IANS, hackers are employing deceptive tactics to distribute fake OnlyFans content and adult lures.
Their aim is to trick users into installing DcRAT, a remote access trojan.
This trojan allows hackers to remotely control victims' devices, compromising their data and credentials.
DcRAT possesses various capabilities, including keylogging, webcam monitoring, file manipulation, remote access, and stealing web browser credentials, cookies, and Discord tokens.
Understanding OnlyFans
Hackers are capitalising on the popularity of OnlyFans, a content subscription service, by distributing ZIP files containing a VBScript loader.
Victims are lured with the promise of accessing exclusive OnlyFans premium content.
Upon executing the program, the malware gains control, jeopardizing the victim's personal information.
According to a report by IANS, initially attributed to BleepingComputer, this campaign commenced in January 2023.
