Taking this major step, India has now joined the exclusive group of nations that provide 5G telecommunications, which also includes the US, Korea, the UK, Japan, China, and countries around Europe.

Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel are now extending the availability of 5G services to additional Indian cities. As additional cities are ready for 5G, telecom firms are gradually adding 5G capabilities to those cities. Before the end of December, Jio 5G intends to reach the whole state of West Bengal, according to the firm.

Here are five important things you need to know:

1. Even if your smartphone has 5G compatibility, you won't be able to use it right now. To enable 5G on the majority of smartphones, smartphone manufacturers must provide a software upgrade.

2. To use 5G, the user has to do three actions. Both a smartphone and a SIM card that supports 5G are required. To enable the most recent network after that, you must modify your handset's settings.

3. Users of Airtel and Reliance Jio may get 5G with their current SIM card. In essence, this implies that a SIM card may remain in place while using a 5G network.

4. Mumbai, Kolkata, Varanasi, and Delhi are the four cities where Jio is now providing 5G service. By December 2023, the telecom operator hopes to have 5G available throughout the whole nation.

5. In addition to Delhi, Airtel has also begun deploying 5G in Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Siliguri, Nagpur, and Varanasi. By the end of this year, it intends to introduce 5G in all significant metro areas, and by December 2023, it hopes to have 5G coverage available throughout India's major cities.

Customers who purchased 5G phones may now use the newest network. However, before 5G can be enabled on devices, certain smartphone manufacturers must release an upgrade. Jio and Airtel are running free 5G trials in a few cities right now. However, the telcos are soon anticipated to reveal 5G plan prices and other information. They are not currently charging anything. In contrast to Reliance Jio, which stated that its 5G plans would be the most affordable, Airtel promised to offer 5G plans at the same prices as 4G prepaid plans.
