The inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) is all set to get underway on March 4. Gujarat Giants will take on Mumbai Indians in the inaugural match at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.

Former India women's team captain Mithali Raj has been appointed as the mentor of Gujarat Giants. The franchise has recently shared a video on their Twitter account where Mithali can be seen dancing to the tunes of popular Sri Lankan song ‘Manike Mage Hithe’.

The video has been captioned, “When you realize it’s a #WPL month!”

Mithali is a trained dancer in Bharatnatyam. Indian pacer Hurley Gala and Shabnam Shakil accompanied her in the dance.

While some fans reacted joyfully to the former captain’s dance, few others expressed their frustration over the fact that Mithali will not be playing cricket anymore.

“Mithali should have played this WPL,” a fan tweeted. (sic)

In response to the video another fan wrote, “We wish you good luck for 2023 WPL but we miss you badly on the field Mithali Raj.” (sic)

“Multi talented captain She is Goddess of cricket she is a great commentator and she is a mentor now,” a third user wrote.
