Pace bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur has been discarded from the Indian team for a long time. However, Shardul is currently in great form in the ongoing Ranji Trophy.
Shardul was impressive in Mumbai’s recent Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir. He scored 51 and 119 runs and captured 2/39 in the first innings.
Many experts and several fans feel that Shardul’s performances could make him a potential selection for the five-match Test series against England starting in June.
Former Test opener Aakash Chopra believes that Shardul could be in contention for India’s squad for the upcoming Test series against England.
According to Chopra, Thakur’s absence was felt during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25.

“It seems like Shardul could be included as well. We definitely missed him a bit in the BGT. He’s a bit fired up now, doesn’t have an IPL contract, and is out of the team. He bowls effectively and is someone who can step up with the bat in a crisis,” said Chopra in a recent interaction.
“Shardul recently made valuable contributions with the bat in both innings, coming close to leading his team to victory. While one player can’t win a game alone, he certainly performed well. He’s had success in England before. So, Shardul Thakur is certainly in the running for the England tour. It’s important to pick bowlers who can also contribute with the bat and deliver solid bowling performances,” he added.
