Who is the better Indian men’s cricket team captain—Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma? This question is currently taking social media by storm as fans watch the events of the third match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test between India and Australia.

The match that kicked off on December 14, at Brisbane's The Gabba, saw rain play spoilsport on the first day. However, the second day is witnessing massive Aussie dominance, with Travis Head and Steve Smith both crossing the century mark.

This comes as Rohit Sharma reassumed captaincy from Jasprit Bumrah, who led the Indian side for the first two matches, winning one in the process.

Meanwhile, a misfield from Sharma amid the showstopping Head-Smith performance left Indian cricket fans in dismay. Many immediately took to social media sites like X (formerly Twitter) to express their unhappiness.

Amidst this, a section of fans reignited the "better captain" debate, claiming that Virat Kohli was a better leader or “the greatest captain of all time” before Rohit Sharma took over team captaincy from him around 2022, a decision that sparked huge debates and controversy in the cricketing world.

Several netizens shared video snippets and match commentary showcasing India’s aggressive style of cricket under Kohli’s captaincy, similar to Australia's display now.

Others cited official statistics showing that under Kohli’s leadership, Team India won a remarkable 40 Test matches, earning him a success rate of 58.8%, surpassing his predecessor MS Dhoni’s 45% Test match success rate. Additionally, the 36-year-old's distinction of having the most double-centuries by any Test captain in cricket history, with seven, added further glory to his name.

While Rohit Sharma boasts an impressive 57.14% Test success rate, having won 12 of 22 matches, his performance consistency as captain is central to the online debate, with him averaging only 13 runs in his last five Test matches.
