Virat Kohli during net session ahead of ODI series against Sri Lanka
While shadow practicing ahead of the ODI series against Sri Lanka, Team India batsman Virat Kohli was referred as ‘Chokli’ by a fan.
As per reports, Kohli was going through his motions when the fan burst into ‘Chokli-Chokli’ chants. The unsavoury incident immediately caught Kohli’s attention. The star batsman was visibly upset over the development.
Kohli’s head snapped almost instantaneously at the fan. Judging by the look in his eyes, Virat wasn’t happy.
Notably, ‘Chokli’ term is directed at Kohli based on trolls on social media. The term is a mix of Virat’s surname Kohli and ‘choking’. The term stemmed from some fans’ beliefs that Kohli fails in big, knockout matches for India.
‘Chokli’ term first emerged after India’s elimination from the 2019 World Cup, where Kohli was dismissed for 1. It was the third time that Kohli was dismissed on 1 in an ICC knockout game. The star batsman fell for the same score in the 2015 World Cup semifinal against Australia and the 2017 Champions Trophy final against Pakistan.
When the insulting term was fired at Virat, he did not take it kindly and responded by saying ‘not here’.
