The Royal Challengers Bangalore women’s team created history by winning the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024. Led by Smriti Mandhana, the women’s team has finally fulfilled the dreams of RCB winning an IPL trophy, as the men’s team is yet to win the IPL.
The maiden win will definitely boost the confidence of the men’s team who are looking forward to beginning the IPL 2024 with a clash with MS Dhoni’s CSK. As a franchise, this win will always be special for the RCB franchise.
As a mark of respect, Virat Kohli along with the men’s team gave ‘Guard of Honour’ to the women’s team. All the members of the men’s team gave the ‘Guard of Honour’ to their women’s counterpart at the RCB Unbox event.
In the viral video, we can see the men’s team clapping for the RCB girls as they walk with the trophy. RCB fans were super happy with the sweet gesture of the men’s team for the talented girls with many calling it the ‘Chak De India’ moment.
Speaking after the event, Smriti Mandhana opened up on the win and said that it was not right to undermine Virat Kohli and his team’s achievements for the RCB franchise.
“The title is one thing, but what Kohli sir has achieved for India is remarkable. So, I don’t think that comparison is right in terms of where my career is and what he has already achieved,” Mandhana said.
She further added, “I think, to be fair, the men’s team has also played good cricket in the last 16 years; it is not like they have not played well. I don’t think the comparison is right.”
