After a stupendous show in IPL, KKR all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer has already made his debut for India. Now the Madhya Pradesh player has been included in India’s ODI squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa.
The 27-year-old wants to cash in the opportunity and evolve as an all-rounder for the side.
“I am batting up the order sometimes and also playing the role of a finisher. I want to be flexible in the order. As a batting all-rounder, I also want to finish my quota,” Iyer narrated while speaking to reporters.
The KKR cricketer also revealed about his evolution as an all-rounder, saying that his role is more than just batting and bowling.
“I always wanted to evolve as an all-rounder. I always wanted to evolve as a cricketer, which just doesn’t mean batting and bowling but also fielding and my leadership skills on the ground,” he elaborated.
“Even if you are not the captain, you can still contribute to your side by showing your leadership skills. So that is something that I really feel is very important to create an atmosphere where everyone is at parity,” he added.
As per Iyer, he takes things as they come and not think much ahead of the future.
“I take things as they come and take it one day at a time. Of course, I have in mind how to go about things for the bouncy tracks in South Africa and my role as a bowler, fielder and a batter. Everything has been worked out. But I still take it one day at a time,” he said.
