11 years ago on November 16, the audience in Wankhede Stadium witnessed their hero Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar taking his final steps from the game he just loved and was passionate about. India’s Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar retired from international cricket. Widely recognised as one of the most complete batters in cricket, Tendulkar hung up his shoes during the 2013 West Indies tour of India.

A teary-eyed Tendulkar walked off the field to a guard of honour from his teammates. The Indian cricket legend soaked in all the cheers at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium one last time in his career.

Words will fall short if we try to explain what Tendulkar was as a player and what he was for the team during his playing days. He brought life to cricket and people used to watch the game because of him.

And there were many records under his belt which he achieved across all countries. Tendulkar’s test knocks were simply outstanding, be it 119* on his debut or the counter-attacking 169 off 253 balls against South Africa in 1996-97 or the heartbreaking 136 against Pakistan in a nail-biting thriller.

Tendulkar’s dominance in the ODI format also remains unmatched. May it be his iconic Desert Storm innings against Australia or stellar performance in the 1996 World Cup, where he amassed 523 runs as India's top scorer, Tendulkar redefined excellence in the sport. His unbeaten 186 against New Zealand in 1999 set a new benchmark, becoming the highest individual score by an Indian in ODIs at the time.

Tendulkar’s brilliance inspired a generation of cricketers, paving the way for stars like Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, and Virender Sehwag to rise as the ’90s gave way to a new era of Indian cricket.

On this day, Tendulkar reminded fans of his prime. Playing with the same fire he had during his debut against Pakistan, where he faced legends like Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis. On his final match, he scored a fluent 74 off 118 balls, peppered with 12 boundaries. Each run was celebrated by fans both at the stadium and across the nation.
