Test series against England: Gautam Gambhir opens up about Shreyas Iyer's exclusion from Indian team

Prolific batter Shreyas Iyer is currently in the form of his life. He is performing brilliantly both as a player and the captain of the Punjab Kings in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.

However Iyer's exclusion from the Indian Test squad has surprised several fans and experts. Some fans even went to the extent of blaming the current head coach of the Indian team and the former mentor of KKR Gautam Gambhir for excluding Iyer from the Test squad. They are of the opinion that Gambhir was not in good terms with Iyer during his KKR stint.

In response, Gambhir has finally broken his silence over the matter.

"I am not a selector," said Gambhir in a terse reply.

Meanwhile, Gambhir, a former BJP MP, was effusive in his praise for the Indian cricket board for inviting the three chiefs of armed forces to attend IPL title clash, saying, "It's an unbelievable step".

"We normally criticise the BCCI a lot on a lot of things, but this is something which is unbelievable. BCCI has taken an initiative from the point of view that the entire nation is one and the entire nation has to salute the armed forces for what they do unconditionally," said Gambhir.
